Flat Roofing
Flat Roofing is very different to a traditional pitched roof. As a flat roof is horizontal the materials that cover the roof should allow any water to run off freely from a very slight inclination to prevent water from staying on the roof and causing long term damage. In the past flat roofs were constructed using tar and gravel that was sufficient to prevent penetration of water. However, this surface would tend to fail in colder climates where ice dams could block the flow of water in winter. Older style roofs could also be susceptible to sagging, which would then encourage pools of water further.
Modern flat roofs from 1st Choice Superseal are specially made using a continuous membrane covering which can better resist pools of standing water. We apply the surface as a continuous sheet where possible, and we use suitable sealants and adhesives to cover any joins to make your roof waterproof. The life expectancy of a flat roof can be greatly extended if you maintain your roof properly, so please ask us for advice on how to care for your roof and we will be happy to help.
