Some 30 years ago, in the Swansea Marina, South Wales, Midland's Company Director, Nigel Bailey, first recognised the full potential of GRP (glass reinforced plastic). The positive properties of this material had long been acknowledged and adopted by boat builders who sought a durable, maintenance-free material that was capable of conforming to complex shapes.
Through knowledge gained in their fabricating/boat building business, he and his partner were so impressed with the inherent properties of this material that it prompted some lateral thinking. Very soon, it became apparent that with it's imperviousness to water and flexible nature, GRP had qualities that could be beneficially applied to roofing and initial testing and applications were highly successful.
Experience gained in South Wales proved to be invaluable, and it was not long before plans were made to set up a GRP roofing business in the Midlands. Today, Nigel Bailey and his Co-Director Paul Tucker, operate a thriving business, 1st Choice Superseal, in north Birmingham, which has now been running for 20 years. The mainstay of the company centres on its undoubted expertise in flat roofing using GRP, however, recent years have seen its natural development into many other aspects of both roofing and security.
